This study discussed the cautions surrounding the issuance of fatwas (Islamic legal opinions) via social media platforms. It aimed to highlight the most important of these cautions—whether religious or academic—in order to protect the religion with a strong shield from those who might deviate from its path, and to preserve people’s rights. Fatwas are one of the foundational pillars of Islamic law.
To achieve the study's objectives, the researcher employed both the inductive and analytical approaches, in order to investigate and analyze the phenomenon of fatwa-related risks on social media, clarify their dangers, and suggest methods of prevention.
The study concluded that there are numerous cautions that must be observed by anyone issuing fatwas. Chief among them are: refraining from issuing fatwas without sufficient knowledge and deliberation, ensuring full comprehension of all aspects of the matter at hand, and carefully considering the condition of the person seeking the fatwa. Additionally, the one issuing the fatwa should be well-versed in areas of consensus and disagreement among the various Islamic legal schools, have a sound understanding of the objectives of Sharia, avoid rigid literalism, and possess knowledge of people's circumstances, environments, customs, and societal conditions.
