This study aims to clarify the threats posed by the Ghaṭafān tribe to the Muslims in Medina, as well as to highlight the Prophet’s strategies in dealing with them. The study used the descriptive method in defining the Ghaṭafān tribe and its sub-tribes, places of spread, its nature, its stance towards Islam and the Muslims, and emphasizing the dangers posed by the tribe to the Muslims in Medina, whether by attacking the edges of Medina, or mobilizing gatherings with Arab tribes to do so, or participating in alliances with the Quraysh and the Jews to fight the Muslims, and highlighting the dangers of the Ghaṭafān tribe. The study used the descriptive method to introduce the tribe of Ghaṭafān and its sub-tribes, its places of spread, its nature, its attitude towards Islam and the Muslims, and the dangers it posed to the Muslims in Medina, whether by attacking the outskirts of Medina, mobilizing gatherings with Arab tribes for that purpose, or participating in alliances with Quraysh and the Jews to fight the Muslims. The analytical approach was used to uncover the cause of Ghaṭafān’s enmity against the Muslims, and to explain the diversity of the Prophet’s strategies in using military force such as pre-emptive, punitive, and surprise attacks, not submitting to Ghaṭafān’s threats, and preparing to fight them, or the Prophet’s use of peaceful force and their strategies such as negotiation, deception, dissuasion, pardon and forgiveness, and framing their hearts with money and booty to prevent or minimize their dangers. The study concluded that the most severe enemies of Muslims are the Jews and polytheists, and that it is necessary to diversify the use of peaceful and military force to counter their dangers. The study recommended further exploration of the Prophet’s strategies in dealing with enemies to employ them in dealing with the dangers facing Muslims in our time.
